March Edition 2026: In a Nutshell: Crocs

Updated: Apr 21

Crocs—how many people have them? No matter if you’re gardening, by the beach, or just love the classic, stylish clogs walking around, almost everybody has a pair. So, what is so appealing about these Croslite™ footwear?

Crocs started out as nice, comfy boating shoes - shoes that boaters and fishermen wear. Those boaters then went to boat shows, and Crocs became famous for their quality. Crocs went public in 2006, and Jibbitz charms were added for a fun, customizable touch to the Crocs. Crocs later developed a model: Crocs Rx. These Crocs were made for medical purposes to help with chronic illnesses, diabetes, and more. Crocs even started to collaborate with luxury brands, such as Balenciaga, to create formal, fashionable Crocs. They gained even more popularity during Covid-19, and over time, these clogs that only fishermen wore turned into comfy footwear almost every family has.

Crocs are made of an iconic, lightweight material called Croslite™. It includes a molded footbed for added comfort and a rear heel strap to keep the foot from sliding out when running. It also includes holes for breathability. Crocs are very compatible with water, and dry quickly, as Croslite is waterproof. Crocs are considered timeless footwear, seeing that it was once mocked as ‘kid’ shoes, but now are very fashionable and often complimented on. They are easy to clean and last for a very long time. They are roomy shoes with gently massaging nubs on the footbed, and very lightweight. Practically everything about the design of Crocs deserves compliment.

Most students have one or more pairs of Crocs. Mona Wang,  a 6th grade student interviewed says: “I own two pairs of Crocs. I find them very comfortable and wear them often. If I had to rate them, I would give it a seven out of ten.” Still, some students disagree about the practicality of Crocs. “I own a pair of Crocs,” 6th grader Nicholas T.says.”I find them impractical because they have holes in them. I would rate them a 2 out of ten.” However, most students like Crocs in general, as a survey shows.

From its start as soft, light boating clogs Crocs has undergone many changes, whether it be due to boating success, or comfort necessities during COVID-19. Crocs has gained many people’s interest through collaboration with other companies, and changing its style from light clogs into other designs, such as high heeled Crocs, or the Big Red Boots by MSCHF, Crocs version. Crocs is a stylish brand with any kind of footwear you can imagine.
